Volunteer for EBC!

EBC always welcomes new ideas and initiatives from members, and there are ways you can get involved right away:

BikeWorks

The little community bike shop that could is open as often as we have members who are willing to volunteer to keep the shop open. We are always looking for people to help out during shop hours. Mechanical experience isn’t necessary, but if you know what you’re doing and can help people out with their bikes, that’s great! BikeWorks also needs volunteers to greet people, sell stuff, show people up to our fantastic bicycle showroom, put away and sort orders, keep our parts room in order, answer phones and questions and just generally keep the place running smoothly.

You can also help out with our infamous Napalm Parties, where we attack the somewhat-chaotic parts yard to strip down bikes, sort the useful parts from the not-so-useful parts and send the latter to be recycled and organize what’s left. Helping out at Napalm Parties is a lot more fun that it sounds, and is critical to keeping EBC’s recycling and bike rebuilding programs running smoothly.

With the snow rapidly disappearing we also plan to re-start our Stripping Nights, which, while likely not what you think, are almost as much fun. Stripping Nights involve taking the useful parts off of donated bikes to replenish the parts room, truing wheels and getting the bad bits off of good frames so that they’re ready to build up. If you want to learn about how a bike fits together, there’s no better way than taking a few apart!

If you’re interested in helping at BikeWorks in any of these ways, or have a great idea we haven’t thought of, leave a message at 780-433-2453 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The Cyclist’s Vehicle

If you have editing and/or writing skills that you’re dying to share with the cycling community in Edmonton, you can outlet your creativity through the newsletter, The Cyclist’s Vehicle.

Summer Festivals

Summer is a busy time for EBC - from offering secure bicycle parking at many Edmonton summer festivals to co-sponsoring Bike Month in June - it’s the ideal time to get involved with EBC. If you like meeting new people, being outdoors and promoting cycling, we’d love your help this summer.

Advocacy

If you want more bike racks on buses, or want to increase awareness of bike theft issues, or meet with the City to talk about cycling infrastructure under the umbrella of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society, then get in touch with us.

If you have any questions, ideas or you would like to volunteer, please call 780-433-2453 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
