Volunteer for EBC!

EBC is run and operated almost entirely by volunteers: the board of directors, the fine folks hauling bike trailers full of bike repair supplies to a community event, the individuals writing letter to their city councillor about more and better cycling infrastructure, and the mechanics at BikeWorks are all volunteers.

If you enjoy bikes and community-building, come volunteer for Edmonton’s only non-profit bicycle organization!

Volunteer Opportunities

SCiP Internships
The Serving Communities Intership Program (SCiP) provides $1000 bursaries for interns. The schedule is flexible, the roles can be created to suit your skills and interests, and the work is challenging (no busy-work here!). You get great volunteer experience, and you get a $1000 bursary to support your work. Check out our current postings, or contact us to discuss other ways you’d like to contribute.

Our current postings are:

  • Outreach and Event Coordinator
  • Marketing and Communications Director
  • Fundraising and Sponsorship Coordinator
  • Transportation Policy Researcher
  • IT Analyst
  • Web Developer

BikeWorks

We are always looking for people to help out at our community bike shop. Volunteers sign up as Shop Host or Mechanic, both of whom have educational roles.  Shop Host welcome people to the shop, show them what is available for sale, sell memberships, discuss cycling issues with patrons, organize parts and generally keep the place running smoothly. Mechanics offer their assistance to patrons who need guidance doing a repair.  No mechanical experience is necessary for Shop Hosts or Mechanics—BikeWorks is a space to share skills and learn from others.  An interest in learning and helping others to learn is all that is necessary.

Advocacy

If you want more bike racks on transit, or want to increase awareness of bike theft issues, or meet with the City to talk about cycling infrastructure under the umbrella of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society, then get in touch with us.

Community Events and Festivals

All year round, but especially in the summer, EBC is busy delivering community outreach programs.  Volunteers are helpful in many roles: hauling bike trailers of supplies to events around town, supervising festival bike parking, helping in one of the many events during Bike Month in June which EBC co-sponsors, providing minor bike tune ups at community halls and workplaces, and the list goes on!

EBC Communications

If you have editing and/or writing skills that you’re dying to share with the cycling community in Edmonton, you can outlet your creativity through EBC’s need for event posters, newsletter articles, website content, facebook updates, twitter buzz and other social media.
