Trailers

EBC has an 8’ cargo trailers, two 5’ cargo trailer, and two BOB trailers. Members can rent any of them for $10/day or $2/hour.

The 5’ and 8’ cargo trailers are rated to 300lbs so they can carry most things. They’d be good for completely car-free moves or moving things that won’t fit in a car like lumber, mattresses, or couches.  EBC sourced these trailers from Bikes At Work, and so can you.

The BOB trailer is good for big loads of groceries or camping/touring.

Cost:
Members can rent them for $10/day or $2/hour.

What do I need if I want to rent a trailer?

EBC Membership
Trailer rentals are one of the benefits of EBC membership. You’ll need to show your membership card to sign out the trailer. Don’t have a membership? They’re only $20/year.

Credit Card
To ensure the trailers remain in good shape for everyone to use, we require a credit card imprint as a deposit.

Photo ID
To verify your credit card.

Rental Fee
Trailers can be rented for $10/day or $2/hour. Cash only, please.

Your Bicycle
Most bikes will work with our trailers but we recommend mountain bikes for heavy loads. If you’re unsure whether your bike is suitable, ask one of EBC’s friendly volunteers.

For more details, view an example rental form. Note: This form is only provided as an example. The actual form must be completed with a mechanic at BikeWorks during our regular operating hours, and the actual agreement may differ from the online version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rent a trailer indefinitely?
No, bikes and trailers must be rented for a specific period of time.

Can I reserve a bike or trailer?
Bikes and trailers are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. You can, however, call ahead to see if we are likely to have bikes/trailers available when you need them.

What if my rental bike or trailer breaks down?
You are responsible for returning the trailer in good condition. Costs for repairs stemming from anything but regular wear and tear may be deducted from your deposit.  Also, the renter is responsible for transporting the trailer back to BikeWorks should repairs be required.

Can I pay for a rental trailer when I return it?
Payment must be made in full at the time of rental.

Will your trailers fit with my bike?
Our Bikes at Work cargo trailers can be attached to any diamond-frame style bike though we recommend against using them with very lightweight bikes or bikes with weak brakes.  Our BOB trailers can be used only on bikes with quick release rear axles with 135mm spacing.  Please inquire if you are unsure.

Do you rent trailers to transport children?
No. None of our trailers are suitable for transporting children.

Are there any other organizations or businesses that rent bike trailers to the public?
EBC does not know of any other organization or business that offers this service in Edmonton at the time.  If you know of one, please let us know!
