Bike Trailer Rentals

loaded trailers DSC_0124

EBC has one 8’ cargo trailer and two 5’ cargo trailers. Members can rent any of them for $20/day or $5/hour.

The 5 and 8 foot cargo trailers are rated to 300 lbs. so they can carry most things. Car-free moves or moving oversized objects that won’t fit in a car: lumber, mattresses, or couches. EBC sourced these trailers from Bikes At Work, and so can you. We no longer rent out BOB trailers.

What do I need if I want to rent a trailer?

Pre-booking

Contact us at [email protected] at least 24 hours before you wish to rent a trailer so that we can make sure it’s available and ready for you, and to arrange pre-payment for the rental.

EBC Membership

Trailer rentals are one of the benefits of EBC membership. You’ll need to show your membership card to sign out the trailer. Don’t have a membership? They’re only $20/year.

Credit Card

To ensure the trailers remain in good shape for everyone to use, we require a $500 deposit paid by cash or credit card.

Photo ID

To verify your credit card.

Rental Fee

Trailers can be rented for $20/day or $5/hour. Maximum rental period is 7 days. Rental fees need to be paid in advance to secure the trailer rental booking.

Your Bicycle

Most bikes will work with our trailers but we recommend hard-tail mountain bikes for heavy loads. If you’re unsure whether your bike is suitable, ask one of EBC’s friendly volunteers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I rent a trailer indefinitely?

A: No, bikes and trailers must be rented for a specific period of time.

Q: Can I rent a trailer without pre-booking?

A: Unfortunately not. Due to space constraints, we don’t have room to do trailer setup while BikeWorks is open to the public. On the up side, booking a trailer rental in advance will decrease your waiting time on the day you want to pick it up.

Q: What if my rental trailer breaks down?

A: You are responsible for returning the trailer in clean and good condition. Costs for repairs stemming from anything but regular wear and tear may be deducted from your deposit. Also, the renter is responsible for transporting the trailer back to BikeWorks should repairs be required.

Q: Can I pay for a rental trailer when I return it?

A: Payment must be made in full at the time of rental.

Q: Will your trailers fit with my bike?

A: Our Bikes at Work cargo trailers can be attached to any diamond-frame style bike though we recommend against using them with very lightweight bikes, carbon frames, or bikes with weak brakes. Please inquire if you are unsure.

Q: Do you rent trailers to transport children?

A: No. None of our trailers are suitable for transporting people.

Q: Are there any other organizations or businesses that rent bike trailers to the public?

A: EBC does not know of any other organization or business that offers this service in Edmonton at the time. If you know of one, please let us know!
