Edmonton Bicycle Commuters (EBC) :: I’m looking at a road bike that does not have drop handlebars.

Question

I'm looking at a road bike that does not have drop handlebars. Shift levers are on the aerobars, brakes at the ends of the handlebars. Are these any good for commuting? I want a road bike.

Answer

You can build your own road bike at the EBC shop. What I have seen people do in the past is take a road bike, put mountain bike handlebars on it, and change the narrow seat for a wide, mountain bike type. This configuration gives the best combination between comfort and efficiency.

If you don’t know how to build a bicycle, you need not worry. There is an experienced bike mechanic at EBC to show you the ropes.

Bike to the Symphony Under the Sky

A diverse line-up of orchestral concerts that span everything from Bach to Billy Joel! EBC will be on-site with bike parking

EBC will be at the Lois Hole Library to talk about all thing related to cycling in Edmonton for this one hour session

CAN-BIKE 2 Course in September

EBC is offering a Canadian Cycling Association CAN-BIKE 2 course beginning September 11. CAN-BIKE 2 is an 18 hour, on-road cycling course.

Basic Bike Maintenance at Lois Hole Library

EBC will be at the Lois Hole Library for this very popular workshop. Maximum of 20 participants.

9am-8pm

Tour de Perogy 2010

Ride with us to the Ukrainian Heritage Village for their Harvest Food Festival! It’s a leisurely, social ride with delicious food.
