We need YOU to make this city great for cycling.

If you happen to share that love of a breeze across your face as you’re pedaling your way to school or work or grocery shopping, making contact with the people around you (and occasionally running into friends serendipitously), listening to the birds and feeling the sun across your arms, then you might just be right to get involved with setting the direction of EBC.

We’re looking for fresh board members, committee members (you don’t need to be on the board), and volunteers to take on organizational tasks. It’s great for your community (and not bad on your resumé), and you’ll be directly involved in steering Edmonton towards a more bike-friendly near-future.

Come to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, September 13, 2009.  There you’ll meet all sorts of people interested cycling: old dudes on recumbent bikes, couples on tandems, hipsters with fixies, pedal-mashing mountain bikers, and the owners of a menagerie of two- or three-wheeled vehicles (and the occasional 4-wheeler, for those days when you just need it).

You can learn about what we’ve been up to for the past year, what we’re looking forward to for the next few years, and how you can get involved with setting our course.

And we’ll totally be feeding you.  I might go so far as to suggest that it will be quality food.

And we’ll be giving you door prizes, like this Swobo Long-Sleeved Merino Jersey ($138.00) from Mountain Equipment Co-op.  And this pair of MEC Cuffo 2 Capris ($50), specifically designed for cycling.  Not good enough?  Maybe you need the MEC Rackpack Backpack ($33) to carry your loot home in.

Did we mention that if you win something, and it’s the wrong style or size for you, you can take it to MEC to exchange it?

Maybe you already have everything you could ever want from MEC.  You want something from EBC.

We’ve got ding-dong bells.  We’ve got motion-activated wheel lights that make patterns when your wheels spin.  We’ve got silicone tie-on bike LEDs (yeah, Knog frog knock-offs).  We’ve even got a bike-mounted umbrella holder, for that bit of Danish class.

So come. Get involved.  I’ll fix your bike for you while you’re there.

You can read more about the AGM here.

The Kickstand Circus - Cruiser Nite

The Kickstand Circus is a group of people who understand that only a cruiser is truly made for cruising, that sometimes style is more important than speed, and that no amount of “aftermarket cool” will turn your fixie into a cruiser.  You can only ride a cruiser bike on a cruiser nite. If this makes sense, you’re part of the Kickstand Circus.
