BikeWorks will be open on Victoria Day (Monday, May 21) from 6pm-9pm, in case your ride needs a little TLC before the commuting week starts.

Looking to move 10 foot bike racks without using a car? Or maybe just boxes of clothing and books when you move? Things that won’t fit in a car, like lumber, mattresses, or couches? Maybe you’re going touring, or maybe you just need to pick up a big load of groceries? Why not rent one of our bike trailers?  You can move up to 300 lbs with one of these!

EBC now has two 5’ cargo trailers, one 8’ cargo trailer, and two BOB trailers. Members can rent them for $10/day or $2/hour. Click on “continue reading” to get more info.

We’re extending BikeWorks hours for the spring!  So if you’ve had your bike stuffed in your garage all winter, now you can get it back out on the road in tip-top condition. And if you’ve been riding it all winter, then you probably need to re-pack your bottom bracket, overhaul the hubs, replace the chain, clean the derailleur, and scrub some dirt off the frame….

We can always use extra help around the shop!

An anthropology group at the University of Alberta has made a 16 minute documentary about the bycicle community in Edmonton, which includes interviews of people at EBC.  The video is called “Bike Love”, and you can check it out on Google Video here.

On May 15 and May 16, Public Interest Alberta is sponsoring the world premier screenings of Escape from Suburbia, a new film from Gregory Greene, director of the award-winning film The End of Suburbia. Escape from Suburbia expands on the themes of peak oil and the need for relocalization described in the previous film.

EBC is pleased to be giving away 25 free tickets to the Tuesday screening.  Come find us in the theatre lobby on May 15, and let us know that you biked to the film.  The first 25 people to chat with us will each get a free ticket!

Looking to learn how to fix bikes? Enjoy teaching these bike mechanic skills to others? Or perhaps you just enjoy chopping up dead bikes for recycling? Frustrated at the limited hours of BikeWorks, and want to help us extend them?  .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to volunteer. We need more people to help keep the shop open longer hours.

Spring is here (in an Edmonton way), and we’re cleaning up BikeWorks. Come out and join us for some cheer and we’ll clear out the yard.
