What we do

The Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society (EBC), a non-profit society formed in 1980, is a leader in the Edmonton cycling community. We support people using bicycles as everyday urban travel.

We sell used bikes, accept donated bikes, and run bike repair and riding courses. We also operate a volunteer-run community bike workshop where you can drop in and learn how to fix your bike. For more info, including workshop hours, read our FAQ.

Moving the World

at 12:20 am posted by Chris C

Looking to move 10 foot bike racks without using a car? Or maybe just boxes of clothing and books when you move? Things that won’t fit in a car, like lumber, mattresses, or couches? Maybe you’re going touring, or maybe you just need to pick up a big load of groceries? Why not rent one of our bike trailers?  You can move up to 300 lbs with one of these!

EBC now has two 5’ cargo trailers, one 8’ cargo trailer, and two BOB trailers. Members can rent them for $10/day or $2/hour. Click on “continue reading” to get more info.

Spring Hours

at 12:20 am posted by Chris C

We’re extending BikeWorks hours for the spring!  So if you’ve had your bike stuffed in your garage all winter, now you can get it back out on the road in tip-top condition. And if you’ve been riding it all winter, then you probably need to re-pack your bottom bracket, overhaul the hubs, replace the chain, clean the derailleur, and scrub some dirt off the frame….

Check out our new hours in the top-right of the page. And if you’d like to volunteer during any of these hours (whether you have mechanic experience or not), please .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or just drop-in and introduce yourself to one of our friendly mechanics. We can always use extra help around the shop!

Free tickets to “Escape From Suburbia”

at 1:33 am posted by Chris C

On May 15 and May 16, Public Interest Alberta is sponsoring the world premier screenings of Escape from Suburbia, a new film from Gregory Greene, director of the award-winning film The End of Suburbia. Escape from Suburbia expands on the themes of peak oil and the need for relocalization described in the previous film.

EBC is pleased to be giving away 25 free tickets to the Tuesday screening.  Come find us in the theatre lobby on May 15, and let us know that you biked to the film.  The first 25 people to chat with us will each get a free ticket!

See our calendar for more details about the screenings.
