What we do

The Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society (EBC), a non-profit society formed in 1980, is a leader in the Edmonton cycling community. We support people using bicycles as everyday urban travel.

We sell used bikes, accept donated bikes, and run bike repair and riding courses. We also operate a volunteer-run community bike workshop where you can drop in and learn how to fix your bike. For more info, including workshop hours, read our FAQ.

Scrap bikes at the scrapyard.

BikeWorks recyles all unuseable bikes and scrap metal as well as all old tires and inner tubes.  So far in 2010 alone we’ve diverted over 7000 pounds of scrap metal and over 1500 pounds of tires and tubes from the landfill!

Parking at BikeWorks

Please park in the green areas and not the red.

In order to be a good neighbour and comply with City bylaws (Bylaw 5590) we are asking that visitors to BikeWorks no longer park in or along the alley.  If you are loading or unloading bikes, passengers, etc. you may briefly park outside our gate.  Otherwise, ample parking is available nearby along both 101 Street and 79 Avenue, as can be seen marked in green on the above map.  Thank you for your cooperation!

This Saturday June 19th is the Bikeology Festival and due to EBC’s assistance with that event, BikeWorks will be closed for the day.  If you’re in need of a little mechanical help, you should come on down to the festival where our volunteer mechanics will be happy to give your bike a free minor tune up.

If you want to start learning about working on your own bike but aren’t sure where to start, this course is for you! Learn how to fix a flat tire at home or on the street, how to keep your brakes working flawlessly and your shifting smooth. You will find out how to save money by spotting small problems before they turn into big problems and by learning how to clean and lube your bike, you’ll learn how to extend the life of your bike while improving its performance. Bring your own bicycle so you can learn specific techniques that work on your components, or learn on one of the many EBC yard bikes.

Register by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Space is limited, and these courses tend to fill up quickly.

Please note that this is an introductory course. If your bike has a problem that is not covered by the scope of this course, we probably won’t have time to fix it, but you can always come to BikeWorks during regular drop-in times and one of our volunteer mechanics can help you.
