SOS Fest: People-Powered Party

Begins: 11am-3pm
Music is a Weapon is gearing up to host hours of live entertainment using a great renewable energy system: people on bikes! The musical showcase will use bike-powered generators to create a cooperative experience for the community, while presenting some of Edmonton’s best up-and-coming talent!
Sounds of Strathcona Festival is a brand new music festival in support of Warchild and the Alberta Music Education Foundation. Over 100 performers have joined together to present an astonishing variety of musical entertainment.
July 10 will be Edmonton’s first people-powered event! Music is a Weapon is gearing up to host hours of live entertainment using a great renewable energy system: people on bikes! The musical showcase will use bike-powered generators to create a cooperative experience for the community, while presenting some of Edmonton’s best up-and-coming talent! Music is a Weapon takes the stage in Gazebo Park on July 10, 2010 from 11am to 3pm.
The Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ are one of the bike sponsors for the pedal-powered stage, so if you’d like to ride for EBC, email us.
Sounds of Strathcona Festival runs from Friday, July 9 to Sunday, July 11. SOS Fest will be held in the heart of Old Strathcona with over 20 host venues (all festival long) and 2 outdoor bandstands right on Whyte between 103 & 105 street (on July 10).

CAN-BIKE 2 Course in September
EBC is offering a Canadian Cycling Association CAN-BIKE 2 course beginning September 11. CAN-BIKE 2 is an 18 hour, on-road cycling course.

Now that EGS has the room, we are going to have a celebration in the parking lot. Free minor bicycle repairs by EBC, burgers and hot dogs by Vegans & Vegetarians of Alberta, and maybe a few surprises! EBC Annual General Meeting 2010
The 2010 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters’ Society (EBC) will take place on October 3, 2010 from 1pm-3pm at Parkallen Community League Hall (11104 65 Ave). Door prizes provided by MEC and EBC will be awarded. Food and drink will be served.
If you’d like to be involved in setting the future direction of EBC, whether as a volunteer, non-board committee member, or board member, or just want to hear what’s going on with the organization and meet some of its volunteers, please attend this AGM.

Help EBC raise funds to pay our rent and electricity! The work is really easy, plus EBC will buy you a meal for each shift worked. Volunteers are needed for cashiers, chip runners, bankers, and count room.
