November Update: A board member has resigned due to relocation to another city so the EBC Board must fill this vacancy as soon as possible. Applications will be accepted immediately and will close on December 15, 2013. We will make an appointment of an interim board member at our December 18th meeting. The interim board member will serve until the 2014 Annual General Meeting when they will be required to seek official election to the board from the EBC membership.
EBC’s Board of Directors is seeking applicants to run for election at our Annual General Meeting on October 6, 2013 from 11am-2pm at Parkdale Cromdale Community League Hall (11335 85 St).
Board members are elected during our AGM by the general membership of EBC. Candidates and voting members must be members in good standing. To check the status of your membership, to renew your membership, and to see the list of member benefits, please visit our membership page.
All members elected in October will serve a two-year term starting in December, and are responsible for the governance (but not the day-to-day operations) of EBC. The time commitment is a minimum of eight hours a month. Our board member job description and code of conduct is available on our wiki, along with recent meeting minutes and our Society’s bylaws and charitable objects. If you are unfamiliar with not-for-profit board governance, please read more here.
This is a great way to contribute to EBC if you share the vision of a bike-friendly Edmonton, and to shape the way EBC’s various programs develop. All interested individuals are encouraged to apply, and we are particularly seeking members that have skills or interest in non-profit management, accounting, grant writing, fundraising, or local advocacy. We are a growing organization with lots of projects on the go, and good governance is crucial to our success.
If you know of anyone that fits the bill, including yourself, please nominate today.
Candidates can be nominated from the floor of the meeting, but interested folks are also encouraged to share a bit about themselves in advance.
If you have any questions about the board, or just need a little encouragement, please e-mail [email protected].
